Kevin Sommerfield and Steve Goltz are bringing slashers back with Slasher Studios. Having been raised on 80′s slashers, they want to make fun, clever films that play homage to the genre that they both love so much. Their first film “Teddy” received great reviews from critics around the world and went on to win Audience Favorite at Chicago Fear Fest and Best Horror Short Film of 2012 from Horror Society. Their second film, “Popularity Killer” is a kill-or-be-killed 80′s slasher homage. Their third film “Blood Brothers” is a hostage style thriller with ties to “Last House on the Left” and “Mother’s Day” with a gritty Noir edge. They just released their first slasher feature, “Don’t Go to the Reunion”, another 80′s slasher homage over the Fall of 2013. Next up for the slasher duo is the winter themed slasher “Dismembering Christmas.”

"Leprechaun" Prequel/Reboot Receives Star & Release Date

We’ve been so busy with horror club and posting reviews that Slasher Studios hasn’t had much time to post any news as of lately. Well, we have some pretty big news for you today to make up for that. Variety reports WWE Films is rebooting the Leprechaun franchise. Not only that but they have a release date, a working title and a star! The working title of the film is “Leprechaun: Origins” (one of the worst titles I’ve heard in a while) and it is set to slash up theaters in March 2013.

WWE also revealed its own “Hornswoggle” will star as the title character. Hornswoggle is known as David Postl outside of the WWE universe. No writer or director have been attached for the reboot as of yet. Lionsgate will finance as well as distribute. What are your thoughts on this reboot? It can’t be worse than the original? Can it?
